Short, because a page nobody reads protects nobody. Using this service means agreeing to what follows.

Scan only what you are entitled to scan

Submitting a hostname confirms that you own the server, administer it, or have permission from whoever does. A check is a real connection to a real machine, and the decision to make it is yours.

Rules about connecting to systems you do not control differ from country to country, and this service cannot tell you what applies where you are. That judgement stays with you.

Do not use this as a weapon

Not for examining systems you have no business examining, not for generating load, not for automated bulk collection. Limits are in place and are set to permit ordinary use comfortably. Working around them is a use this is not offered for.

The result is a description, not advice

A report says what a server negotiated at one moment, graded against a published rule set, and states what it could not measure. It is not an audit and not a certification. Offered as it is, without warranty of any kind: it may be wrong, it may be unavailable, it may stop existing, and no liability is accepted for what anyone does with a result.

Findings are yours

A finding describes a server's public configuration — something anyone connecting to it can observe. It is not reported to anyone, published, or kept. What you do with it, including whether to tell the operator, is your decision.

Run it yourself instead

Everything here is open source under AGPL-3.0, with no third-party dependencies. If these terms do not suit you, or you need volume this will not permit, run your own instance. That is a supported use, not a workaround, and the promises on the privacy page describe this service rather than any copy of it.
